Community Engagement

Community engagement is a key feature of the new planning system, enabling front loading, early decision making and ongoing involvement from a range of stakeholders. The consultation methods used in preparing the JWDPD are consistent across the Greater Manchester area, and conform with the 10 Statements of Community Involvement.

Engaging the public, political figures, industry and other stakeholders early on in the plan making process is a keystone in laying the foundations for future change. Participation, stakeholders, has a very real role to play in informing the content and direction of the JWDPD and therefore ensuring its ultimate credibility as a robust framework for the provision of waste management facilities. Community engagement can also directly tackle some of the hard-set perceptions of waste management and help to educate people on the changes to the image waste management.

We are committed to involving stakeholders throughout the whole plan process, if you would like to be involved, click here to register your interest

Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan Document Public Consultation Event March 17th 2008

Residents and businesses in Greater Manchester are being urged to take part in an event looking at the future provision of waste facilities.

The event, in Manchester city centre on Monday 17th March, will focus on both household and commercial waste.

As part of the development of the Stage Two Issues and Options Report a stakeholder event took place on Monday 17th March. The event was aimed at residents and businesses, and outcomes will help to develop options for the delivery of waste management facilities throughout Greater Manchester.

The event focused on both household (municipal) waste - which is very important to the 10 councils and their local communities - and commercial, industrial, construction and demolition waste which is produced in much larger quantities. Please see the agenda below for more details.
