Stakeholder Event

As part of the initial stakeholder engagement, members of the public, waste facility operators, landowners, elected members and council officers from the 10 Greater Manchester Authorities along with representatives from adjoining authorities were invited to attend an event on September 17th 2009. The event was facilitated by officers from the Greater Manchester Geological Unit, the team preparing the Waste Plan. The aim of the day was to introduce the emerging policy directions from Issues and Options, and generate stakeholder input to the development of the Preferred Policy direction for the next stage of consultation, the Preferred Option stage.

The event, held at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester city centre, commenced with several presentations from officers working on the Waste Plan and a representative of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. If you would like a copy of these presentations please contact a member of the Planning Team: or telephone 0161 779 6182.

Two workshop sessions were carried out to encourage stakeholders to understand the background data and policy impetus behind the future need for waste facilities in Greater Manchester (Workshop 1) and how such facilities should be managed from a land use planning perspective (Workshop 2).

The feedback received from the event has been presented within an outcomes report which can be downloaded here. The detailed responses received on specific policy wording were fed into the development of the Preferred Option Report, available for consultation in November 2009.
